Archaeological Impact Assessment
Ursus has conducted many Archaeological Impact Assessments (AIAs) which are required where there is a potential conflict between archaeological resources and a proposed development. An AIA is concerned with the identification, assessment and management of archaeological sites. Archaeological sites are places where there is physical evidence of past human activitiies or behaviours.
To conduct an AIA within B.C., it is necessary for an archaeological consultant to obtain a Heritage Inspection Permit, issued by the Archaeology Branch, pursuant to Section 14 of the Heritage Conservation Act. This permit can take 6-8 weeks to obtain and is reviewed by staff at the Archaeology Branch and First Nations groups who have traditional territorial interests in the project area.
