Traditional Use and Knowledge Studies; Map Biography
Traditional use and knowledge studies involve working with and for Aboriginal groups to document traditional and contemporary knowledge that is important to them. Aboriginal use and knowledge of the land and its resources are key topics of interest. However, less tangible aspects of knowledge may also be collected, such as songs, stories, and ideas. Natasha has also facilitated the production of map biographies, where First Nations and Inuit Elders and community members ‘map’ their knowledge of different kinds of resources onto cartographic maps (for example, archaeological sites, fishing and hunting locations, place names, plant harvest sites, stories etc). This knowledge can in turn be used to develop interactive websites and related products that are of interest and use to these communities.
