Regenerating Northwest Coast Forest Gardens

Forest gardens are a unique kind of archaeological and eco-cultural landscape. They are highly diverse and productive second growth forest openings created and managed by Indigenous communities worldwide that are composed of fruit and nut trees, dozens of edible berry species, root foods and medicinal plants. The aim of this project, a partnership between Chelsey Geralda Armstrong (chelseygeralda.com), at the Historical and Ecological Research Lab at Simon Fraser University, Kitselas and Sts'ailes First Nations, and Ursus Heritage, is to identify, document, and regenerate forest gardens in British Columbia as part of efforts to support food sovereignty initiatives in these communities.
